My gym welcomes it, most of the guys visit every day like myself - so it’s our only opportunity to shower and shave.
Very few gyms welcome shaving in the gym, so make sure to check before you crack out your razer. Keep the fast-paced underwear change to the bedroom antics only. Relax, dry yourself down properly and then put on your underwear like a normal human being. You need to get over the fact that you will be nude. Watching a man try and towel dry himself and his underwear was a sight straight out of a budget comedy movie. I once witnessed a guy put on his boxers whilst still in the shower. The locker room leads to a dry room that opens out into the showers, everyone can see everyone no matter how hard you try to hide. My gym is open plan, no doors, no booths and no privacy. I’m constantly seeing guys try and wiggle their way out of being nude in front of other nude guys. Your lack of confidence in this situation is what makes things awkward. Not completely underwear related but needs to be said. Whilst this isn’t the most problematic thing I have to deal with, I really don’t want to have to move your dirty clothes that have been strewn across an entire bench. Once I’m showered and dried, I’ll take the clean ones from the pile on the bench and put them on pronto. When I take off my gym kit, the underwear comes off with it and goes straight into my bag. Put your dirty underwear away as soon as they come off, and keep the clean ones to hand. Nobody wants to pick up and move your sweaty jockstrap so they can put their stuff down.
Please Please Please don’t leave your undies lying about. But I would never wear those out or with people around. I have a few pairs that are only for chilling in. If you wouldn’t wear it on a date night, throw it away. But you should never leave the gym in the same underwear you worked out in.Īgain, boys. If it’s a pair that you’ve worn for the morning and are getting back into them, that’s fine. Get a clean pair that will last you the rest of the day. Guys don’t wash their underwear enough anyway, but if you’ve just worked out and showered, don’t put on 3-week old undies. You’ve just worked out, showered and are now putting on a pair of crusty old undies. I found very quickly that I preferred jockstraps in general, briefs are great but I’ve only found a couple of pairs that are comfortable enough to workout in. Wear something different each time, and if it gets a little uncomfortable you have something else to try. If you can’t choose what to wear for your workout, bring a selection of different underwear the first few times you visit.
And if they do, they’ve got a bigger problem than you do. Nobody is going to call you out or comment. I don’t know what makes guys self-conscious about their undies, but there’s nothing to worry about. You’ll often see newbies show up in their boxers for the first few days, before starting to relax and wear whatever they normally do.
I myself wear jockstraps to workout myself and change into briefs. Most of the guys at my gym wear briefs, so there’s a lot of Calvin Klein, Ralf Lauren and Andrew Christian waistbands about. Through my rather extensive experience in public changing, I thought it would be best to outline some etiquette advice when it comes to underwear in those sweaty, man filled rooms. A lot of my previous locker room experiences come from the army where privacy was just a thing of dreams. I go to the gym every day, therefore I spend a lot of time in locker rooms.
So when it comes to change in a room full of other men, a lot of guys feel awkward and need to read up on some common guidelines.
Many guys haven’t ventured into one since doing PT at school. Men’s locker rooms are interesting places. It got to the point when I was 19 taking a nude shower in the locker room for the first time ever I was super apprehensive about it despite the fact I wasn’t at all afraid of being seen naked, just the accidental erection part.Common Guidelines for the Men’s Locker Room Now here’s the thing, I only ever heard about that fear in my middle/high schooling and never actually heard anyone other man bring it up both in college or online, so I’m wondering if this was just a couple of insecure classmates who brought up this idea and made me wary of it for the rest of my life.
There were even tips I heard about how to prevent yourself from getting an erection in the locker room from these classmates. Inspired by another post here, despite never actually taking a fully nude shower in the PE Locker room in Middle/High school (if you did took showers you took them with your underwear or swim trunks on) I remember both among my classmates that getting an erection in the boys shower was a fear for obvious reasons, that if you were naked around a bunch of other naked men in the shower and got a boner you’d be called gay and ostracized for the rest of your time in school.
